Questions

Is 24 hours enough to leave DXB?

Yes, if you land by early afternoon, depart the next evening, and choose either old Dubai or Downtown, not both. The metro is straightforward once you are out of the terminal. The time you lose is the walk through Terminal 3, immigration, and the three hours you should be back before a long-haul departure.

Can I do a desert safari on a Dubai layover?

Only on a 48 or 72 hour gap, and not if you fly the next morning. Evening safaris have a pickup window. Add the ride back to DXB and a three-hour check-in and a same-night departure usually does not fit.

Should I stay at the airport or in the city?

Stay near the airport if the onward flight leaves before about 10:00. Otherwise Bur Dubai or Deira is the practical base: close to the Creek and a shorter metro ride than Downtown.

Do I need a visa to leave DXB on a layover?

Leaving the transit area is an entry into the UAE. Most European, UK and US passports receive a free visa on arrival, for 30 or 90 days depending on nationality, with a passport typically valid for six months. If your passport is not on the current list, do not exit transit hoping to sort it out at the desk.
