72 hours in Dubai from DXB
Seventy-two hours is enough for old Dubai, Downtown, and one trip out of the city. It is not enough for all of that plus a beach club, a theme park and Abu Dhabi.
Treat the middle day as the long one. Keep the last morning boring, especially if the flight is before noon.
A sensible order
Day one: Creek and a hotel in Bur Dubai or Deira, so the arrival transfer stays short.
Day two: the long block. Either a desert with a reliable return, or Abu Dhabi if the Louvre or the Grand Mosque is the reason you have three days. Not both.
Day three: Downtown at an easy pace, then back toward the airport. If the flight is early, swap day three for an airport hotel and do Downtown on day two.
Abu Dhabi is a decision
The capital is about 90 minutes away without traffic and longer with it. A day trip can be excellent. It deletes the desert and it deletes any idea of a relaxed final evening in Dubai.
If you are only curious, stay in Dubai. You are not missing the only mosque or the only museum that fits a layover. AUH has its own guide if your ticket actually lands there.
Pace and heat
Summer afternoons are for indoors: a museum, a mall you actually have a reason to enter, or the hotel. Schedule walks for morning and after 16:00.
Winter is when a beach or the Marina promenade earns a place. Even then, pick one and go back to the hotel while you are still glad you did.
Bags and the last night
If bags are checked through, you can do this with cabin luggage. If you must collect a suitcase, the airport hotel on the last night is kinder than dragging it to a third neighbourhood.
Three hours at DXB before departure is the minimum to plan, not a suggestion for people who enjoy queues.
