48 hours in London from LHR

Forty-eight hours is a night in London and still only one district. The second day is a walk or a boat, not a second city.

Day one, one ticket

Tower of London or the Eye, not both. Drop the bag at a hotel on the Elizabeth line: Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, or Liverpool Street, whichever is actually near the sight.

Eat nearby. Crossing to a famous restaurant is how the evening disappears.

Day two, the river

Uber Boat by Thames Clippers is the flexible one: piers at Westminster, London Bridge, Tower, and Greenwich, on a return ticket you can use without a guide. One or two hops. Greenwich is the far end and it is still London.

If you already did the Tower, walk the South Bank instead of buying another monument. The river is the programme.

Where not to sleep

A lovely street in north London that is forty minutes from the Elizabeth line will make the return the subject of the trip. Pretty can wait.

Paddington is correct when you are on the Express. It is merely fine when you are not.

Departure

Trains run late. Check the last one for your terminal anyway. Three hours at Heathrow. Security is the variable, and so is a terminal change.
