48 hours in Singapore from SIN

Forty-eight hours is the comfortable Singapore layover. One evening on the bay, one daytime neighbourhood, and a hotel that is not a cross-island commute.

You still pick. Chinatown or Kampong Glam, not both plus a theme park.

Day one, the bay

Arrive, enter, hotel near Marina Bay or the civic district, then Gardens by the Bay or a long walk to the river. If the flight was cruel, the walk is enough.

An overnight connection with a late onward flight is the moment for the evening city-lights run: terminal pickup, the river, a hawker stop, the free light shows, and back. It is about five hours and it is priced as a private group. It still requires immigration.

Day two, one neighbourhood

Chinatown and a hawker centre, or Kampong Glam and the Sultan Mosque area. Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat, or a cooked-food centre you can point at on a map. Eat where the queue is local and the bill is small.

Little India is the swap if you already walked Chinatown on the way in from the airport. Do not collect districts.

Heat is the schedule

The middle of the day is for indoors: a conservatory, the National Gallery, or a long lunch. The walk is for the morning and the late afternoon.

Storms are short and total. A museum beats a ruined plan.

Departure

Trains back to Changi, or a taxi if you are outside their hours. Three hours in the terminal for a long-haul.

Morning flights belong to an airport hotel. The city will still be there on a longer ticket.
