72 hours in Abu Dhabi from AUH

Three days lets you add one outdoor block to the mosque and the Louvre. A desert morning or a few hours on Yas. Adding both, plus Dubai, is how the last day disappears.

Order

Day one: Grand Mosque and a Corniche hotel.

Day two: Louvre Abu Dhabi, slowly.

Day three: desert or Yas in the morning, then toward the airport. If the flight is before noon, day three is the airport and day two ends early enough to move hotels.

Desert versus Yas

The desert is the more distinctive add. Book a short, reputable trip with a return time you can point at.

Yas is a theme-park island. Go only if that is the reason you are pleased to have 72 hours. It is not a cultural top-up.

Dubai remains a separate trip

A Dubai day from Abu Dhabi can be done in 72 hours and it deletes the desert, Yas, and any calm. If you wanted Dubai, the useful layover was DXB.

If you go anyway, leave after breakfast, pick one Dubai district, and be back in Abu Dhabi for dinner. Do not fly out of AUH the same evening.

Last night

Sleep on the Corniche if the flight is late afternoon or evening. Sleep at AUH if it is morning. The capital's appeal on a layover is that the ride is short, so use that on the last day rather than inventing one more sight.
