AUH to the city and back
There is no layover metro to memorise. Official taxis are the tool. The rides are short by Gulf standards and long enough that you still only get one major sight on day one.
Enter, or do not
UAE visa-on-arrival rules apply. If your passport is not eligible, the city plan is cancelled and the airport is the layover.
Have the onward flight and hotel address ready. Passport validity of six months is the usual expectation.
Take the official taxi to one address
Tell the driver the mosque, the Louvre, or the hotel. One of those. A driver who suggests a quick Dubai add-on is suggesting you miss your flight.
The mosque is often 25–40 minutes. The Corniche is in a similar range. Saadiyat is its own ride. Ask the hotel for the current typical time if you are tight.
Respect the mosque clock
Visitor entry pauses around prayers. Build the day with a margin rather than a slot you invented. Dress before you leave the hotel so you are not problem-solving at the gate.
Back to a large terminal
Three hours before long-haul departure, inside Zayed International. The road from the Corniche can be kind and can also be a parking lot after an event.
If you are on Yas or Saadiyat, leave earlier than the Corniche timing. You are further from the kerb that matters.
Hotel car for the return
Worth arranging the night before if you fly in the morning or you are far from the airport. A known pickup beats a search for a taxi at 05:00.
What not to do
Do not rideshare with a stranger who offers Dubai. Do not string the mosque, the Louvre and Yas into one afternoon.
Do not confuse AUH with DXB. They are different airports in different cities. Your boarding pass is the one that counts.
