24 hours in Kuala Lumpur from KUL
KLIA is not a city airport. The train is fast and the city is still a second ride away. Twenty-four hours holds one timed ticket.
Use it for Petronas or for KL Tower in the evening. Not for both, and not for a waterfall in another state.
Out of the airport
Submit the MDAC before you land if you are not in an exempt category. Then follow signs for KLIA Ekspres, not for a taxi tout.
KL Sentral is 28 minutes from T1 on the non-stop trains, every 20 minutes through the day. First trains are around 05:00 and the last around midnight. Your ticket is timed once you enter the gate. Do not linger on the platform.
The plan
From KL Sentral, continue to KLCC for the Petronas Twin Towers. The deck and the skybridge are a timed visit of about an hour to ninety minutes. Book the slot before you fly. The towers sell out, and a hopeful walk-up is a queue you do not have.
KL Tower is the evening swap: the deck or the open terrace, open late enough that a dinner-hour visit can work. The listing is non-refundable and it asks for your passport. Bring it.
What to skip
Batu Caves on the same day as a towers slot, unless you have dropped the towers. The caves are a half day from the city before the ride back to KLIA.
Genting, the Cameron Highlands, and Melaka are not 24 hour ideas. The transit tour from the airport is a full day and it needs to have been booked two days earlier.
Back to KLIA
KL Sentral, then the Ekspres. Three hours in the terminal for a long-haul, on top of the 28 minutes and the ride from the hotel to Sentral.
If the flight is early, sleep at KLIA. The first train is not a strategy for a 07:00 departure.
