48 hours in Frankfurt from FRA
Forty-eight hours is a night in the centre and a second pace. One booked thing. The other day is walking.
Day one, the square
S-Bahn in, hotel, Römerberg, the cathedral outside, the bridge over the Main. If you made the 10:00 walk, that is the structure. If you did not, the square does not require a guide.
Sachsenhausen is across the river if you want the apple-wine neighbourhood in the evening. One glass is the layover version. A crawl is not.
Day two, the water or a museum
The cruise, if you did not do it yesterday. Or the Museumsufer, one museum, the Städel if you want a name. You still should not do the cruise and a museum and a second tour.
The private car from the airport is the alternative shape for the whole layover, not an extra on day two. Luggage can stay in the car. The clock still needs six hours or more.
Where to sleep
Near the Hauptbahnhof the return is a walk and a train. Near the Römer the evening is better and the walk with a suitcase is longer. On 48 hours the Römer is allowed if you have looked at the distance.
Departure
S-Bahn to the regional station. Three hours in the terminal. Non-EU travellers should give the border time on the way out as well.
