Frankfurt activities that fit a layover

Frankfurt does not need a stack of tickets. One hour on the river, or one morning on foot, is the city.

How the hours actually work

The notes above are specific outings. These are the timing rules that decide whether any of them fit the gap on the ticket.

The 24 hour booking

River Main cruise

Fifty or 100 minutes from the Eiserner Steg, commentary in English and German. The S-Bahn has already done the hard part.

Boats do not run to your flight. Check the day's departures before you leave the airport.

A 10:00 start

English walking tour

About three hours, daily, through the Römer and the new old town. It is the best structure in the city if you can meet it at 10:00.

A noon landing does not get this tour. Walk the square yourself.

Six hours or more, per group

Private car from the airport

Pickup at FRA, the old town, the skyline, the river, luggage in the car, and back. About four to four and a half hours of touring, and the price is per group, from about $382.

Allow a connection of six hours or more once immigration is included. It replaces the cruise and the walk.

At the airport, after you enter

Fraport Visitor Center

Terminal 1, Departure Hall C, landside. About ninety minutes, open 10:00 to 18:00 with a midday closure. Apron views and aviation exhibits.

Use it when you are already through the border and the city train is no longer honest. Do not use it as a way to avoid immigration.
